We are pleased to announced the Palmy Companion Card Trial has been extended for a further 12 months to the 30th June 2024.

What a Card offers 

Partnering venues offer a two for one ticketing option. Card holders can purchase a ticket, and their Attendant Companion Support person is issued with a ticket for free.

The intention of the trial is to provide equity in ticketing expenses for people with life-long impairments who may need additional Attendant Companion Support to participate in ordinary activities at partnering venues and activities.

How to Apply

  1. The applicant is the person with the impairment.
  2. The applicant’s legal guardian or agent may complete or sign on the applicant’s behalf.
  3. An application takes up to 14 working days to process and can take longer if incomplete information is provided and further information is requested.

About the Palmy Companion Card

The Palmy Companion Card Trail was developed to promote equality of access for people with impairments to fair ticketing.
The Trial has now been extending into its third year - now due for review by the 30th June 2024. 

The Palmy Companion Card is designed to provide equity in ticketing expenses for people with life-long impairments who may need additional Attendant Companion Support to participate in ordinary activities at partnering venues and activities.


Eligibility Criteria

To receive Palmy Companion Card, a person must:

  1. Be a permanent resident or citizen of New Zealand and residing in Palmerston North City boundaries.
  2. Be a person with life-long impairments who may need additional Attendant Companion Support to participate in ordinary activities at partnering venues and activities.

Attendant Companion Support includes significant assistance with mobility, communication, self-care or learning, where the use of aids, equipment or alternative strategies does not enable the person to carry out these tasks.

The Palmy Companion Card will not be issued for conditions with infrequent or unexpected events such as allergic reactions, falls or medical emergencies.

The Palmy Companion Card is not issued to every person with an impairment. The card is issued to individuals with life-long impairments who may need additional Attendant Companion Support to participate in ordinary activities at partnering venues and activities.

Each application will be assessed against the Palmy Companion Card eligibility criteria.

If approved NO PHYSICAL CARD will be sent - cards are accessed via the App - details of this can be found at the bottom of this page.
